Eczema & Hyperbaric Oxygen

Eczema & Hyperbaric Oxygen

Eczema is very common and can begin during childhood, adolescence, or adulthood and it can range from mild to severe

Eczema is not contagious and you cannot catch it from someone else. The exact cause of eczema is unknown, but researchers believe that people who develop eczema do so because of a combination of genes and environmental triggers

In addition, in a literature review which analysed hyperbaric oxygen as a treatment to help alleviate skin conditions, ten patients with severe atopic dermatitis who did not respond to standard pharmacotherapy underwent hyperbaric oxygen. Clinical evaluation was performed in the study group as well as determination of levels of immunoglobulins: Ig!, IgG and IgE and C3 and C4 complement. All patients indicated clinical improvement and a decreased IgE immunoglobulin and complement C3 level upon completion of the hyperbaric oxygen exposure cycle. The group concluded that hyperbaric oxygen can constitute as a therapy option for some patients with atopic dermatitis, especially those who are less responsive to standard treatment.

In conclusion, the use of hyperbaric therapy has a positive impact on treatment results in children with a severe course of atopic dermatitis.
