How does oxygen affect the human brain?

Oxygen is utilised in the brain almost entirely for the oxidation of carbohydrate. Glucose is the preferred metabolic substrate for the brain, and without oxygen, the glucose is not available to maintain oxidative metabolism.

The brain’s demand for oxygen is enormous. Despite compromising only 2% of our body weight, our brains consume 20% of the body’s oxygen supply.

The human brain is one of the most metabolically active organs in the body, despite not performing mechanical work like skeletal muscle or the heart.

The normal brain consumes 3.5ml of O2/100g of brain tissue per minute.

Hyperbaric Oxygen has been clinically proven to assist a wide range of brain and neurological related conditions.
